Kokoda Property Group strengthens hospitality footprint with Saint Hotel acquisition
Kokoda Property Group has purchased the iconic Saint Hotel at 54 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda, marking a bold step in the company’s growing hospitality portfolio and its commitment to design-led urban renewal across Melbourne.
Occupying a prominent 1,150sqm corner site with a dual street frontage, the Saint Hotel is one of St Kilda’s most recognisable hospitality landmarks.
Kokoda Hospitality’s vision is to reimagine the multi-level venue as a vibrant destination featuring multiple bars, dining areas, private rooms, cellars, and open aired terraces. The design will prioritise connection to the street, ensuring a more open, welcoming experience that feels authentically part of the St Kilda fabric.
Kokoda Property Group Founder and Managing Director Mark Stevens said the company’s hospitality direction is driven by place and experience.
“The acquisition of the Saint Hotel reflects our broader ambition to activate iconic sites and contribute meaningfully to Melbourne’s lifestyle landscape. It’s about elevating the everyday and celebrating the character of place, where guests can enjoy a dining experience without having to spend a lot of money.
“Our vision for Saint Hotel is to create a venue that feels like a natural extension of Fitzroy Street – open, vibrant, and genuinely connected to the community. This will be a place where locals feel at home and where great design meets relaxed hospitality.”
The Saint will offer a multi-level experience anchored in a casual, customer-first ethos – a place designed for locals as much as visitors, with everyday experiences executed at a high standard. A dedicated event space will support weddings, corporate functions, and private gatherings, complementing a broader public offering that spans casual dining, rooftop drinks, and courtyard lounging.
Kokoda Property Group announced its expansion into the hospitality space last month, led by a best-in-class collective of architects, interior designers, placemaking strategists, food and beverage consultants and artists. This is strengthened by an expanding in-house team, bringing expertise from some of Australia’s most acclaimed hospitality groups.
Its debut venue, The Angel of Malvern, is set to open in April 2026. Spanning three-levels, it will include a vibrant public bar and courtyard beer garden, Mediterranean dining on level one and a late-night cocktail bar and events space on the top level.
Kokoda Property Group’s $1.5 billion Teneriffe Banks development in Brisbane will also be home to Queensland’s first Kimpton Hotel in partnership with IHG Hotels and Resorts. Led by Kokoda Hospitality, the hotel’s venues will include two riverfront signature restaurants, an open-air poolside terrace, a speakeasy vinyl bar, a rooftop cocktail bar and a pool club. The broader precinct will offer more than 2,800 square metres of absolute waterfront dining and retail curated by Kokoda Hospitality.
Planning and design of the Saint Hotel will now commence.
